Samsung's Galaxy S4: What May Come on March 14
Exactly a long long long wait since the invites are out. By March 14 we finally could get a glimpse of what mettle the Samsung Galaxy S4 is made of, possibly answering this question: What new smartphone capabilities do we expect to see on Galaxy S4?
The speculation about its launch date is now ended, but rumors about the Galaxy S4's features, specs, appearance and even price are running rampant. In the lead-up to the New York City event, I have compiled everything I know about the Galaxy S4 so as to give you a decent picture of what Samsung might unveil on March 14. Check out below quick rundown of hot specs that could come in the Galaxy S4 package.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumors: View From The Outside
- Screen: The Samsung Galaxy S4 is said to feature a lightly larger 4.99-inch Full HD SoLux Display with a reported resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, which comes out to be an extremely dense-looking display at 441 pixels per inch, slightly less than the HTC One (469ppi), but much more than the 326ppi Retina Display of iPhone 5.
- Size and Weight: Besides the screen, the dimensions of the S4 itself are also said to be slightly different. While the Samsung Galaxy S3 measured 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is said to measure slightly longer at 140.1 mm and slightly wider at 71.8 mm, but even thinner than its predecessor at just 7.7 mm thick, which is just 0.1 mm thicker than the depth of the iPhone 5 from Apple. Source also claims a weight of 138gm, up on the 133g S3.
- Available Color: Galaxy S4 will come in black and white, no original blue included.
- Design: Leaked picture also shows that there is no Home button on Galaxy S4 and there are no changes on its design. But what really hope that Galaxy S4 will never come with the cheap plastic body, just like they did with Galaxy S3, plus be added with a stylus like the Note 2 does.
- Processor: Samsung Galaxy S4 is said to feature a new Exynos 5 Octa CPU, which was initially used in the company’s Chromebook model — the new processor is said to have eight cores for enhanced work flow and power efficiency.
- Camera: So far all speculation is pointing towards a 13-megapixel camera on the back with 1080 HD video recording, and we'd expect the front-facing camera to be at least 2-megapixel with HD video recording at 720p. Although what we still do not know if Samsung adopts any of the new photography technologies on its Galaxy S4, just like what HTC and Nokia did on their flagship.
- Storage: Samsung news site SamMobile believes the Galaxy S4 will be available in three storage options – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB
- Software: We expect the Galaxy S4 to run Android 4.2 with Samsung's own TouchWiz 6.0 user interface over the top. Used by all of Samsung's Android devices, including its smartphones, tablets and the Galaxy Camera, TouchWiz makes major aesthetic changes to Android and brings Samsung's 'designed for humans, inspired by nature' theme introduced last year with the S3 to the forefront of every device.
- Other Features: Wireless Charging, More better NFC
Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumors: Price
As far as price goes, we fully expect Samsung to retain identical price tags from the Galaxy S3 in the Galaxy S4. Now that the Galaxy S3 has seen a price drop – Samsung is selling last year’s model anywhere between $49 and $99 – Samsung is free to sell the Galaxy S4 at last year’s prices. If the company follows the same plan as last year, the Galaxy S4 could cost $199 for 16 GB or $249 for 32 GB. Without a two-year contract, it’s possible Samsung could sell the new handset at $599 and $649, for 16 and 32 GB storage models, respectively, like it did last year.
